no time for pictures today ... just words that are flooding my mind.
my job is such a peculiar one. at first glance, i am simply a computer tudor. i help people navigate the lone and scary world of computer software and interface. sometimes it really is that cold. people come in with their random questions about photoshop--how do i get this picture to fill up a plate? why can't i paint on this layer? how come my computer is having a seizure? ...or indesign, or illustrator, or 4 hour long videos. why won't my 16 gigabyte flash-drive hold this 4 hour movie!? and why is it taking five centuries to export and finalize?
these day in, day out questions seem so commonplace to me now...not even an after thought. oh here's the answer. or, that's just the way it is my friend. i'm sorry that your class is in 4 minutes and the printer won't work...
but then there are days where a man who overcame brain cancer comes in with a simple question about his old blog. the right half of his body is mostly paralyzed, he can only type with his left hand and a partially functioning brain. upon first glance, one can notice he used to be a strong, outspoken man. he has three boys, a wife, a sister, and friends. through his illness, the cancer wreaked havoc on his body and his brain, but his spirit remained intact. now he is simply a humble giant. he came in because he wanted help recreating his old website and revamping his old blog--for the sole purpose of advertising his music and speeches about battling brain cancer.
he can't remember how to spell "B-L-O-G-S-P-O-T" but he wants to type it himself, and he wants to do everything he can to make the new website work in his favor.
it's days like that where i remember that my insignificant problems do not matter. where my frustration with the day in, day out monotony melts into gratitude for the stability of my life.
the humble giant will be back, ready for help and eager to make a name for himself, post-cancer.
it's days like that, that i love my job even more and i love my life most.
